Investigation needed on rubber gloves

Investigation needed on rubber gloves

Medsafe should urgently investigate claims that non-sterile rubber gloves could be affecting our health and pose a biosecurity risk, says National Health Spokesperson Dr Lynda Scott.

“Medsafe has tested these gloves and found significant fungal and bacterial counts.

“These gloves, used to protect us, may be harming us. Doctors, dentists, nurses, ambulance officers and others use these gloves every day.

“There are no standards applied to these gloves manufactured in Asia.

“We need to know urgently whether these gloves should be irradiated to protect New Zealand patients and/or biosecurity. Medsafe needs to conduct a thorough investigation,” said Dr Scott.
