Bow-tied Dunne backs muscular dystrophy campaign
Parliament's most distinguished habitual wearer of bowties, United Future leader, Peter Dunne, today swung in behind this week's awareness campaign being run by the Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Zealand.
The Association is asking supporters to back its yellow bowtie appeal and Mr Dunne says he'll be wearing a bowtie in the House all week "and I challenge all other MP's to do the same to show their support," he said.
It's estimated there are about 4000 people in New Zealand suffering from a incurable neuromuscular condition, which is often genetically determined, meaning there are implications for the sufferers' families as well.
The campaign began on February 22 and runs to March 1.
