Police Executives May Require Assistance With Planning

Police Executives may need to revisit their staff deployment strategies to give more practical priorities to differing levels of criminal offending, said Ron Mark, New Zealand First Law and Order Spokesman.

“It is accepted that the need to ensure drunks are not on our roads is very important”, Mr Mark said, “but not at the cost of permitting serious criminal offenders to escape from apprehension.”

“The recent instance in Auckland where a private security consultant pursued a vehicle at extreme speeds during which a service station was robbed and the attendant assaulted, was a classic case of prioritising gone wrong”, claim Mr Mark.

“It is not good enough for Police administrators to become so focused on meeting the LTSA funded Road Safety Programme required hours of Police attention, when serious offences such as occurred in this case go unattended by Police concluded,” Mr Mark.
