Farmers March On Queen Street

ACT New Zealand Rural Affairs Spokesman Gerry Eckhoff today joined his fellow angry farmers in marching down Auckland's Queen Street, in protest of the Labour Government's proposed greenhouse emissions `Flatulence' tax.

"In what was yet another sign of farmers' frustration and anger towards Labour's Flatulence Tax, Federated Farmers delegates interrupted their national conference and took to the streets of Auckland, both in protest and to thank urban New Zealand for their support," Mr Eckhoff said.

"I am pleased to report we received a very warm and genuine reception from the people of Auckland.

"The Government has buried its head in the sand. Rural Affairs Minister Jim Sutton, rural New Zealand's supposed representative in Cabinet, has totally ignored the wishes of the entire farming community - which were made clear in last night's One News - Colmar Brunton poll which showed 84 percent of respondents opposed the tax.

"Rather than stay and listen to the concerns of farmers, Mr Sutton was last seen jumping on the first available flight back to Wellington," Mr Eckhoff said.
