Time To Get Tough On Drug Pushers

New Zealand First is seriously concerned that drug dealers are pushing drugs to youngsters on an increasing scale.

Youth Affairs spokesperson, Craig McNair is calling for immediate action in light of reports that teenagers are buying party packs containing a cocktail of drugs including ecstasy, cannabis and methamphetamine and written instructions on how to take them.

“It disgusts me to think that criminals are rolling in money made selling illicit drugs to our young people, at the cost of their health, their education and their future.

“A clear message must be sent to the low-lives who peddle their toxic wares to young people,” said Mr McNair.

“Currently the message seems to be that it’s OK unless you get caught and even then the consequences are minimal.

“Last Friday a high profile drug offender who admitted to charges of offering and conspiring to supply ecstasy and methamphetamine was released on bail and given leave to apply for home detention.

“What kind of message does this send both to young people who are faced with decisions relating to drug use and those who make it available to them?

“It is time that this Government recognized the seriousness of an increasing drug problem among our young people and reflected this in polices of criminal responsibility,” said Mr McNair.
