Locke glad Zaoui is out of Paremoremo hell-hole

Green MP Keith Locke has welcome the end of Algerian asylum seeker, Ahmed Zaoui's solitary confinement at Paremoremo prison today.

"I am very happy that at last he is out of his hell-hole at Paremoremo," said Mr Locke, the Green Foreign Affairs spokesperson.

"In his new prison he will at least be able to see visitors more frequently and mix with other inmates.

"However, the fact remains that he is still in jail. The Immigration Minister should end his nightmare by freeing him altogether, to live as a refugee in a compassionate society.

"The government owes him big time for unjustly keeping him in solitary confinement for over 10 months. The best way to recompense him would be to release him immediately.

"If Ms Dalziel is really concerned with Mr Zaoui's well-being she should withdraw the Security Risk Certificate against him, and accept the Refugee Status Appeals Authority determination that he is a legitimate refugee," said Mr Locke.
