Councils Should Update Processes: Catchpole
New Zealand First is reminding local Councils of the importance of putting proper processes in place when dealing with building consents through to the final inspection of buildings or risk facing a raft of compensation payouts similar to that which Waitakere City Council has been ordered to pay.
“Council processes, in particular inspection of completed buildings, need to be looked at more closely to avoid more lawsuits,” said internal affairs spokesperson, Brent Catchpole.
“The leaky building syndrome has exposed a flaw, not only in the building sector, but also in Council processes and their ability to conduct full and proper inspections.
“The leaky homes saga has been bad news for all concerned and we must ensure that it is not an ongoing disaster,” said Mr Catchpole.
