Policing A Serious Business

Policing A Serious Business

“New Zealand First believes the Safer Community Councils have been a singularly ineffective tool to combat crime,” said law and order spokesperson, Ron Mark.

Mr Mark was commenting on the Government’s review of the Councils work over the last 10 years they have been in existence.

“Rather than waste more time and money on trying to resurrect a failed concept the Government should move to implement the New Zealand First policy of making every Police District Commander report directly to the mayors of the local authorities within the Police districts,” said Mr Mark.

“This would ensure local police better understood the needs of communities and councils could be given any reasons local issues were unable to addressed by Police.

“Communities could then approach central government to seek further resources to meet their policing needs.

“There is no place for the politically correct Safer Community Councils nor any hybrid concoction designed to have the same useless outcome.

“Policing is a serious business, the communities and their Mayors have serious concerns, so lets have serious solutions,” concluded Mr Mark.
