Gangs to give until it hurts – taxpayer not paying

United Future’s proposed ‘Al Capone’ gang-busting legislation won’t cost taxpayers a cent in the long term – but it will cost the gangs plenty, leader Peter Dunne said today.

“Police operations and resources needed to target gangs will very quickly be paid for by the money hauled in.

“And what’s confiscated in will also be used to fund rehabilitation programmes for the victims of the gangs’ drug-dealing activities, and to go back into the communities from which it has been taken,” Mr Dunne said.

“The money will not be headed for the Consolidated Fund. It came from the community, and it must go back to the community.”

Ends.
