Baldock gets the facts for Winston

United Future's Tauranga-based transport spokesman Larry Baldock today said it's time that Winston Peters - the Treasurer who brought drivers just two cents a litre for roading in 1998 - came back to planet earth with his demands that the Government put the whole 18.5 cents a litre fuel excise tax into roading.

Taking the matter up in Question Time in Parliament today, Mr Baldock asked Finance Minister Michael Cullen if there was "any possibility" that the Government will reallocate the entire 18.5 cents a litre into the National Land Transport Fund.

"Not surprisingly, the answer was no," Mr Baldock said.

"I did it for Winston's benefit, so that next time he raises the issue of tolling versus the Government paying for everything, he will do so from the basis of sound information," he said.

"Now perhaps he will join me in looking at constructive scenarios for driving the Bay of Plenty's roading needs forward."
