Copeland unable to back allegations

Copeland unable to back allegations

United Future MP Gordon Copeland has been unable to supply any details to verify his accusation that a Dunedin beneficiary was told by a Work and Income Case Manager to consider a career in the sex industry.

Social Development and Employment Minister Steve Maharey yesterday called on Mr Copeland to provide information backing his claims because Work and Income has very clear policy not to refer clients to jobs in the sex industry or accept vacancies from sex industry employers. Mr Copeland advised today that he was unable to provide details to back the claims.

Steve Maharey said it would have been better if Mr Copeland had taken the issue up with him directly if he had concerns, rather than pursuing the issue through the media and then being unable to back up the claims.
