Welcome to Aids Awareness runners
Health Minister Annette King will tomorrow welcome a group of New Zealand tertiary student runners on the steps of Parliament as they finish a leg of their nation-wide campaign to heighten awareness of Aids. The runners are running from Cape Reinga to Bluff.
The run also features Cyrus Phiri, a running legend from Zambia who is renowned for his 800km run across southern Africa to raise funds for the fight against the disease. Phiri has lost five of his brothers and sisters to Aids and he and his wife are currently looking after 10 Aids orphans.
With five people worldwide dying of Aids every minute a day, Ms King says New Zealand cannot be complacent about the effects of this disease.
