We're All Going on a PC Holiday

We're All Going on a PC Holiday

Monday 29 Dec 2003 Deborah Coddington Press Releases -- Commerce

Taxpayers are being forced to spend half a million hard-earned dollars on the Government's latest PC propaganda campaign, ACT's Associate Finance spokesman Deborah Coddington said today.

"In answer to my Parliamentary Question about paying ad agencies to use 'celebrities' to warn us about global warming, Minister Pete Hodgson confirms that $550,000 is being spent on a 'public awareness and education campaign to improve awareness and understanding of climate change as an environmental issue' using 'environmentally responsible New Zealanders acting in ways that help address climate change'.

"This is a waste of taxpayers' money. While the Green Party think everyone should ride around on bicycles - or walk - to save energy, most sensible New Zealanders with families know this is just not practical.

"How many mothers or fathers can take their kids away to the beach for a holiday on bicycles? Very few.

"And anyway, there is still no hard evidence that global warming is bad," Miss Coddington said. Environmentalists on the extreme PC side say 'dangerous interference' is whatever level of greenhouse gases lead to a warming of two degrees Celsius.

That's the low end of predictions for the year 2100 from none other than the IPCC. So in other words, no matter what predictions the IPCC comes up with now, the eco-nutters will say it's 'dangerous interference'.

In fact, a two degree warming, as agreed by most ecologists and economists, will largely be beneficial for the planet.

But then the Government's propaganda, pushed by the Greens and paid for by us, is more about condemning the use of cars than about protecting the environment.

Anyone with half a brain knows the Greens' extreme socialist agenda is the worst thing for the environment, and that the best protection is honouring private property rights.
