Bring Back Knighthoods
Bring Back Knighthoods
ACT Leader Richard Prebble said today it is PC nonsense that the New Zealanders who have received New Years honours are to receive meaningless awards.
"Not one person in a hundred knows what the letters PCNZOM mean. We think it translates to Political Correctness award from a New Zealand that was Once a Monarchy.
"It is part of Labour's republican agenda and an insult to the distinguished New Zealanders to award them with a `something' that is meaningless," Mr Prebble said.
"We should celebrate the fact that we are a monarchy, not a boring republic like most of the rest of the world, and we should be just as proud of our British traditions as we are of our Maori traditions.
"A knighthood, a CBE and the OBE are recognised worldwide. "The kiwis honoured today deserve to receive royal honours.
"ACT believes we should celebrate excellence,
stop being PC, and bring back knighthoods and an honours
system we can all recognise," said Mr Prebble.
