Dunne: ACT - they're all heart

United Future leader Peter Dunne today dismissed an ACT call for New Zealand to play hardball with Niue over its tax haven status before extending a helping hand to the cyclone-ravaged Pacific nation.

"This, I'm afraid, is quintessential ACT - all head, no heart and not remotely in touch with the average Kiwi who simply wants to give a helping hand at a time of need.

"That is the New Zealand way, we help our neighbours in a disaster - we don't kick them in the guts. If we need to take up tax concerns with them, then we should do so, but this is neither the time nor the place for that.

"The statement from Stephen Franks encapsulates just why New Zealanders never have and never will adopt the heartless policies of this far right party.

"It's completely in line with their recent burst of Maori-bashing and, frankly, it's all quite sad," Mr Dunne said.
