Air Force's 67th commemorations

National Party leader Don Brash says the 67th anniversary tomorrow of the Royal New Zealand Air Force is a time to both reflect on its achievements and to look to its future.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force was formed on 1 April, 1937

"During its proud history, the Air force has served our country with great distinction, and a National Government would want to make sure that the value we put on the Air Force is reflected in support and resources.

"Over the past four years its capacity has been systematically cut by a Government not focused on our nation's security.

"The Air Force needs adequate Government support if it is to fulfil its responsibilities.

"If we are to continue to develop a defence relationship with our closest defence partner, Australia, the Government must do better.

"Current spending is failing to meet the challenges of a fast-changing world security environment.

"Congratulations to the men and women of the Air Force on 67 years of fine service to New Zealand," says Dr Brash.
