National Takes Soft Option On RMA

ACT New Zealand Rural Affairs Spokesman Gerry Eckhoff today accused the National Party of abandoning any pretence of major changes to the Resource Management Act.

"By merely claiming that it is prepared to `recognise' private property rights, the National Party - which was founded on private property rights - has indicated that the most it is prepared to do with the RMA is give it a gentle tweak.

"The Party's proposal, to establish an environmental protection authority setting national standards, makes even Jeanette Fitzsimons look less Green - in fact, the Greens are probably envious that they did not come up with the idea first.

"It appears that only ACT New Zealand will ensure that private property rights are fully restored after years of abuse by successive governments," Mr Eckhoff said.
