Involve motorists in accident review
Motorists and truckies need to be involved in the proposed review of accident-clearing protocols in Auckland, says National's Police spokesman, Tony Ryall.
He is commenting on a report in which Police admit a string of errors caused a four-hour traffic jam on Auckland's northern motorway two weeks ago. Police say serious crash investigation protocol will be reviewed as a result.
"This is one example of where the Police need community input as well as community support", Mr Ryall says.
"With increasing congestion, particularly in Auckland, the problem is going to get much worse.
"The Government must launch a wider review of the accident-clearing protocols across the country. This is not just an Auckland problem.
"The review should involve not only the Police, but also motorists and truckies - the people affected by these accidents - and the way Police deal with them. Transit, local government, and motoring interests should be part of this too" he says.
