MP Steve Chadwick strongly refutes claims made today by Tim
and Debbie Short following the release of a Health Committee
report on two petitions on breast cancer.
The Health Committee, chaired by Steve Chadwick, reported back today on the petition of the Shorts. They encouraged the Government to amend the breast screening programme urgently so that it included women aged from 40 to 70 years. In February of this year the Government announced that the breast cancer screening programme would be extended to cover women from 45 years of age up to 69 years of age.
Steve Chadwick said she was concerned at inaccurate comments made by the Shorts today. She refuted their claim that the select committee was a Government majority stacked committee.
“The Government is actually the minority on this committee,” Steve Chadwick said.
She pointed out that the select committee report
was unanimous – “that means it was agreed upon by all
members, which includes the National, Act, New Zealand
First, Greens and United Future parties.”
