Sutton's Story Doesn't Stack Up

Rural Affairs Minister Jim Sutton should stop misleading the public over statements made on his behalf by a Labour Party official in Ashburton last night, ACT New Zealand Rural Affairs Spokesman Gerry Eckhoff said today.

"Labour Party official Julia Mansell, at a meeting to discuss the Government's land access proposals, made it quite clear that Maori-owned land would be exempt from Labour's 'right to roam' legislation.

"Ms Mansell clearly stated that she was reading from notes prepared by the Minister. There are 80 people who attended this meeting who can verify my statement, and refute Mr Sutton's," Mr Eckhoff said.
