Care of Children Bill cares in name only
National's Families spokeswoman, Judith Collins, says the Government's Care of Children Bill, which will pass into law next week, cares for children in name only.
Ms Collins says that in an attempt to redefine 'family' Labour is undermining the requirements of being a parent or guardian.
"Sadly, it's now a case of having of a relationship with a child's mother, picking them up from school a few times, hanging around for a year, and filling out a form.
"To share a property in a de facto relationship takes three years, but to share someone else's child will now only take one year."
Ms Collins says our kids deserve better.
"Parenting is about responsibilities and a lifetime commitment - being a figure in a child's life for a year doesn't cut it."
