Give farmers some certainty, Sutton

Rural Affairs Minister Jim Sutton today delivered another body blow to farmers after refusing to indicate when the Government will make a decision on its land access legislation, ACT Rural Affairs spokesman Gerry Eckhoff said today.

"Today in Parliament, I gave Mr Sutton the opportunity to provide farmers with some certainty over Labour's Mugabe-style land grab.

"The Minister's evasion of my questions and refusal to give a date for the Government's decision highlights his contempt for rural New Zealand.

"As Rural Affairs Minister, Jim Sutton should be up-front and honest with farmers over issues that have a direct impact on their way of life - not for the first time he has failed to do this.

"Jim Sutton has a duty to stand-up for the community he purports to represent at the Cabinet table. If he is not prepared to do that, then he should resign," Mr Eckhoff said.
