TVNZ resignations all show

Murray McCully MP - National Party State Services Spokesman

16 December 2004

TVNZ resignations all show

"The resignations offered by three Television New Zealand board directors and their rejection by the Government is a predictable sham aimed at protecting Labour's political mates," says National Party State Services spokesman Murray McCully.

"The Prime Minister and the Minister of Broadcasting are playing New Zealanders for suckers.

"New Zealanders can now draw their own conclusions about the sincerity and seriousness of the Prime Minister when she attacked the Paul Holmes salary disclosures, and more recently the Judy Bailey revelations.

"Her public comments in relation to both are now shown for the hollow political rhetoric they were.

"The fact that two of the three directors who tendered resignations are political mates of this administration - one a former Labour cabinet minister - has obviously played a major part in this decision.

"Today's charade, after all of the earlier huffing and puffing, is a calculated insult to the intelligence of every New Zealander," says Mr McCully.
