Williamson conversion delights Dunne

Ohariu-Belmont MP, Peter Dunne, expressed surprise and delight today at the ‘road to Damascus’-style conversion of National’s transport spokesman, Maurice Williamson, in favour of the Transmission Gully motorway project.

During Question Time in Parliament, Mr Williamson asked why the Labour government had done nothing during its five years in office about the urgent need to start the Transmission Gully project.

“I was startled,” said Mr Dunne, “because I only began campaigning for the Gully project in the mid-1990’s after encountering indifference and hostility from the then-National Government, in which Mr Williamson held the post of Minister of Transport.

“I am delighted that time and the high quality of my arguments appear to have changed Mr Williamson’s attitude and I am sure the people of Wellington will welcome his support for this much-needed motorway.”
