Turner deplores Greens’ silence on cannabis-related psychotic illness

United Future deputy leader Judy Turner today brought before Parliament a Canterbury University study released this week that shows daily cannabis use almost doubles the risk of psychotic illness, saying she had waited two days for the pro-drug Greens to comment on it.

“However, as usual, we don’t hear a peep from the only party that opposed making P a class A drug when there’s news of the damaged done by drugs,” she said.

"The Christchurch School of Medicine study just adds to the weight of evidence on the damage done by cannabis, and no amount of silence from Nandor Tanczos when these studies come out can change that."

Mrs Turner also raised concerns in Parliament with Associate Health Minister Jim Anderton that his proposed drug classification system which would establish a new Class D would open the door wide for any future Labour-Green Government to decriminalise cannabis.
