Alexander slams Govt neglect of aged care

The recent announcement that yet another residential aged care provider may close is proof that the Government is not doing enough to stop the funding crisis in the aged care sector, United Future senior citizens spokesman Marc Alexander said today.

“The Government claimed that its miserly three per cent increase would fix the immediate pressures on residential services. For Presbyterian Support East Coast to consider shutting down its residential care facilities shows this for the falsehood it is,” he said.

“That three percent is a catch-up from abysmal to dire. Who will look after our very old and very weak?

“This Labour Government has had six years to get involved with the aged residential care sector. It has sat on its hands and done nothing. Now rest homes are falling like flies.”

“That’s not good enough, Pete Hodgson. Not good enough by half,” Mr Alexander ended.

Ends.
