New Zealand First family affairs spokesperson Barbara Stewart says the Law Commission’s new recommendations regarding changes to the legal rules that determine parenthood will further undermine the notion the family and its traditions.
“One of the Commission’s recommendations is to enable sperm or egg donors to “opt in” to legal parenthood with the agreement of the recipient parent (s), which in some cases will result in a child having 3 legal parents,” said Mrs Stewart.
“New Zealanders should be asking just where the politically correct madness and experimentation with our children’s future is going to stop.
“It is worrying to see the Law Commission pushing for such PC changes to the legal definition of families when there is no equal commitment to ensuring that traditional family values are not lost.
“New Zealand First has always been an advocate of the importance of the family to the future of New Zealand and any party concerned about the welfare and security of children must fight hard to preserve it,” said Mrs Stewart.
