Cullen admits more will benefit from National policy

“It’s taken 24 hours, but Michael Cullen has finally admitted that more working parents will be better off under National’s tax deduction policy for childcare,” says National Party Finance spokesman John Key.

The Finance Minister has confirmed that only 54,150 people applied for the housekeeper’s rebate in 2003 and only 48,647 last year. Now he is criticising National for a policy that will apply to 140,000 children.

“Mr Cullen appears to have botched his message again.

“Given that under Dr Cullen’s watch there has been a big increase in the bureaucracy at Inland Revenue, I stand by my earlier statement that there will be no need for extra pen pushers,” says Mr Key.
