Lange made us proud to be Kiwis - Donald

The Green Party started its campaign launch this afternoon with a minute's silence to remember former Prime Minister David Lange.

Before the minute's silence, Green Co-Leader Rod Donald honoured the late Mr Lange.

"Last night, David Lange, one of New Zealand's greatest Prime Ministers, died," Mr Donald said. "It is appropriate to honour his life and mourn his death with a minute's silence.

"David Lange was a commanding figure in the House, throughout New Zealand and around the world. For me, he was a flawed hero. He has certainly left our country with an enormous legacy, both good and bad.

"His breath would have been uranium-free till the last. Like Norman Kirk, he made me proud to be a Kiwi."

Mr Donald said the Green Party's thoughts were with Mr Lange's family at this difficult and sad time.
