Greens get top marks in environmental policy survey

The Green Party is gratified by its top placing in the 'Vote For The Environment' survey released today.

The survey by ECO, Forest and Bird and Greenpeace gave each party in Parliament a percentage mark for its answers to a range of policy questions on environmental issues. The Greens rated highest with 97 percent. The groups emphasised that they are non-partisan and were not endorsing any one party through the survey, saying they would have preferred that all parties challenged the Greens for the most environmentally friendly policy package.

"We're pleased to be able to support the priorities that the environmental movement has put forward," Green Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons says.

"This survey reinforces the fact that only a Green-Labour-Progressive Government would deliver the best environmental policies, and that the Greens would add considerable strength to a Labour-led Government.

"While the right-wing parties like to claim that they also care about the environment, their policies in this regard don't stack up. We've had many warnings that the biggest threats to our economy and our way of life are environmental. We can't afford to ignore them."
