Tax cuts don't build roads
National has no chance of completing Auckland's strategic roading network in eight years because it is giving the money away in tax cuts, according to Minister of Transport Pete Hodgson.
"Tax cuts don't build roads. National has decided to invoke the 'big lie' approach to politics and pretend they can build roads faster, with less money," said Pete Hodgson.
"Their roading programme has no chance of being met. They will not have the cash. For example, National's tax cuts mean that the country's 120 MPs will be better off by around $575,000 per year. That money should be going into Auckland's roads.
"National's failure to confirm the extra $800 million the government is investing in Auckland over the next eight years is deceitful. They can't cut taxes and build roads at the same time. Money can only be spent once."
