Thank you Clevedon Electorate!

14 October 2005

Judith Collins Clevedon MP

Thank you Clevedon Electorate!

I was absolutely delighted with the wonderful majority of 12,871 for the candidate vote. What was even more pleasing was Clevedon's National Party vote rocketing from 7,764 in 2002 to 19,527 in 2005. The National Party received 52% of the Party vote with the candidate vote being 59%.

I would like to thank you for your support over the last three years and especially on Election Day. I would also like to acknowledge the other candidates. The contest in Clevedon was remarkable for its good humour, fair play and the excellent tone of all the public meetings.

Politics is not an individual sport and any great win owes a lot to the hundreds of volunteers who worked for this result. My electorate agent, Megan Wallace, the Clevedon campaign team and electorate executive are the best in New Zealand. For the last three years, I have worked with an utterly committed and unified team and it's that team, together with my electorate and parliamentary staff and my family that helps make my job as your MP so rewarding.

As I write this, we still have a caretaker government. I'm one of the many voters that think that less government is likely to be better government and notice that life goes on without an interfering government constantly changing laws. However, all good things come to an end and Parliament will need to sit by the second week of November. In the meantime, there are plenty of local issues.

The main issues in the electorate involve law and order and I will continue to campaign for more Police and for our Police to be supported in their work. I will also continue to lobby against Transpower's plans to put giant pylons through the electorate when there are viable alternatives.

I am very proud to be the MP for the Clevedon Electorate. I look forward to continuing my work for this electorate.

Thank you for your support.

Judith Collins MP
