Maori under-fives still at risk

Hon Tony Ryall National Party Health Spokesman

16 November 2005

Most Maori under-fives still at risk from Meningococcal B

The Meningococcal B immunisation programme is missing the most at-risk young New Zealanders, says National's Health spokesman, Tony Ryall.

"A year after the nationwide programme began, 40% of under-fives are still not fully immunised, including 60% of Maori children under five," Mr Ryall told Parliament today.

"These are the most at-risk group and the programme is not getting to them. How long will it take to protect these young children? More effort is needed on delivery and less self-congratulation in Parliament."
