Nats Engaged in Petty Politics – Mark

New Zealand First defence spokesperson Ron Mark has accused the National party of petty politics after they vetoed New Zealand First's request for him to sit on the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Select Committee.

Mr Mark is seeking a non-voting seat on the committee, but a National party veto of the request denied him the opportunity to make a contribution on defence and other issues.

"It is unfortunate that the National party has yet to come to grips with MMP, or to develop the spirit of co-operation that allows a variety of views and experiences to be brought to the deliberations of select committees.

"The price of National's petty politicking is that an experienced spokesperson is unable to participate even in a non-voting capacity," said Mr Mark.
