NZ First duped over police numbers
National’s Law & Order spokesman, Simon Power, says it is now clear that NZ First have been duped by Labour over extra police numbers.
“NZ First have been going up and down the country claiming that in their confidence and supply agreement with Labour they were able to secure an extra 1,000 frontline sworn police officers over three years.
“But Police Minister Annette King told the House today that not all those 1,000 police would be frontline officers, rather ‘police staff’, reflecting the wording actually contained in the confidence and supply agreement.
“I wonder what Winston Peters and Ron Mark are now saying behind closed doors about their agreement.
“They have been duped well and truly on this, and I wonder where their next shock will come from.
“The pity of this is that until now Labour has been happy to let New Zealanders believe they were going get these extra police on our streets. Sadly that is not the case.
“We need more police on the frontline and we need them now,” says Mr Power.
