New ACC board member appointed

New ACC board member appointed

ACC Minister Ruth Dyson today welcomed the appointment of Don Turkington to the ACC board.

“Don Turkington has extensive governance experience in commercial, cultural, education and community organisations. His expertise in financial services and investment management, combined with his academic training and research experience in economics, will be an asset to the ACC board and complement the skills of other board members.”

Ruth Dyson also welcomed the re-appointment of Brenda Tahi and Gregory Fortuin for a second term.

“Brenda Tahi (Te Whanau a Ruataupare, Ngati Porou) is deputy chair of the ACC board, and brings significant experience in the public sector and senior management.

“Gregory Fortuin has expertise in general management and business development in the insurance sector. During his time with the Human Rights Commission, he built strong networks with the government and business sectors, Maori, ethnic groups and community organisations.”

Ms Dyson thanked outgoing board member Eion Edgar for his contribution to the board since his appointment in 2002.

ACC board members are appointed for three years, with the opportunity to be re-appointed for a further three years.

Don Turkington is a professional company director, holds a PhD in economics, and currently has governance roles with eight other organisations. He is chairman of Walker Capital Management, and has worked as Executive Director of Forsyth Barr, and as Managing Director of Cavill White and of Morgan Grenfell. Mr Turkington has expertise in financial services, investment management, and governance experience in commercial, cultural, educational, and community organisations.

Re-appointments

Brenda Tahi has served one term on the ACC Board, and is currently the deputy chairperson of the board. Ms Tahi brings significant experience in the public sector and senior management to the Board, including strategic advisory positions with the Department of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Controller and Auditor-General, and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs. Ms Tahi is affiliated with Te Whanau a Ruataupare, Ngati Porou.

She is chair of the Board's Audit Committee and a member of the Remuneration Committee.

Gregory Fortuin has served one term on the ACC Board, and has expertise in general management and business development in the insurance sector. Mr Fortuin's networks with the government sector, business sector, Mäori and other ethnic groups, and community organisations were built during his time with the Human Rights Commission.
