DHBs successful at London job expo

District Health Boards have already recruited 86 new clinical staffers for New Zealand's public hospitals as a result of their participation in a London job expo last year, Health Minister Pete Hodgson said.

"DHBs sent their own employees to London to recruit staff and were very successful," Pete Hodgson said. "DHBs have already recruited some 86 new clinical staff as a result of their work at the expo and have made hundreds of contacts.

"What's more is that they did this without paying high-priced consultants to do the job for them. I'm a bit confused about what has Tony Ryall so worried – 86 doctors and nurses moving to New Zealand would probably be considered a good story by most standards.

"Around a third of New Zealand's medical staff has been comprised of overseas trained staff for over 25 years now. That means that work to recruit staff from overseas is pretty much business as usual for DHBs."
