King must clarify rumour about CAA director
National Transport spokesman Maurice Williamson is calling on Transport Minister Annette King to clarify rumours that Civil Aviation Authority Director John Jones is about to resign.
“It is the CAA chairman and the board that should be resigning, not the director,” says Mr Williamson.
“The aviation industry has a very high level of confidence in John Jones, but almost none in the chairman and board.
“If Annette King wants this matter resolved quickly, she must sack the chair and the board and appoint people who understand the difference between governance and management.
“The board has tried to micro-manage the entire CAA operation and literally added another level of management to the organisation.
“I’ve been in contact with a large number of people from across the aviation community who have told me that if the wrong man goes, it will set the industry back years.”
