ACT Leader Rodney Hide is
pleased that his Bill to remove Government's exemption from
anti-racial-discrimination rules in the Human Rights Act has
been drawn from the ballot and will be debated by
Parliament.
"Private citizens aren't allowed to discriminate against people on the basis of race. The same rules should be applied to government", Mr Hide said.
"The rule that government applies to everyone else should also apply to government.
"My Bill will stop government legally discriminating against people on the ground of race when providing goods and services, vehicles, facilities, land, housing, or access to education.
"New Zealand is a nation of many peoples and many cultures. Skin colour shouldn't be a barrier or an advantage when receiving government support.
"I hope this Bill gains cross-party support, as it signals a cure for the disease of state-sponsored racial discrimination", Mr Hide said.
