The Green Party has welcomed news that Don Brash is proposing to the National Party Caucus that they cut all formal links with the Exclusive Brethren but has two further questions.
"Firstly, will the rest of the National Party organisation cut formal links with the Exclusive Brethren?" asks Russel Norman, Green Party Co-Leader.
"We have received anecdotal reports that senior National Party officials have had private meetings with the Exclusive Brethren in the last month. Will Don Brash guarantee that these non-Caucus links will also be severed?
"Secondly, will the National Party stop the practice of accepting millions of dollars of anonymous donations through secretive trusts? A practice that means that the public has no idea who is funding the National Party," says Dr Norman, also the Party's Electoral Matters Spokesperson.
"This practice of passing donations to National through secretive trusts means that the public cannot be sure that the Exclusive Brethren are not funding the National Party."
"Will Don Brash give a commitment to stop accepting all this anonymous trust money so that we can be sure that he has really cut his links to the Exclusive Brethren?"
