Clark’s double standard over property rights

Helen Clark’s sudden interest in private property rights is gratifying but it raises questions about her Government’s double standards in dealing with rural New Zealand, says National’s Agriculture spokesman, David Carter.

“I’m very pleased to hear Helen Clark talking today about the sanctity of property rights in relation to Auckland’s Carlaw Park,” says Mr Carter.

“But where was she when she was pursuing her agenda to trample over private property rights by opening up privately-owned rural land for public access?

“And where is she now as the Government manoeuvres to force tenure review on high-country farmers?

“It’s a pity she and her Government have not shown the rural community the same level of consideration over this important issue as they have with the property rights of Carlaw Park’s owners.”
