NZ First Welcomes Regulatory Extension

New Zealand First Communications spokesperson Brian Donnelly has welcomed the government's decision to extend the regulation of telecommunications services for another two years, saying it will help guarantee cheaper mobile costs in the long term.

"New Zealand First has long advocated for fairer and more reasonable mobile charges. Part of our Confidence and Supply agreement is to ensure that policy settings deal with the barriers to competition within the industry and continue to put pressure on telecommunications companies to reduce the costs of mobile phone calls," said Mr Donnelly.

"Without increased competition there is no way to ensure lower costs into the future.

"Maintaining the regulation of these services for another two years will enable that competitive approach to evolve within the telecommunications industry – and this has been long overdue," said Mr Donnelly.
