Department of Labour to be rudderless
Two months after the resignation of Dr James Buwalda as Chief Executive of the Department of Labour, the process to appoint a replacement has not even begun, says National’s Labour and Industrial Relations spokeswoman, Kate Wilkinson.
Dr Buwalda resigned on the 22nd of February after nearly three years in the position.
“The Minister of State Services, Annette King, has confirmed that the vacancy has not even been advertised yet and stated that the application process has not yet begun.
“We know the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly but, surely, even the Government realises the importance of having someone at the helm of this department in time for Dr Buwalda’s departure on the 21st of May?”
“The department is charged with improving the quality of New Zealanders’ working lives. One would presume this admirable aim extends to its own staff.
“The Government appears to have missed the irony of having no Chief in the department looking after the Indians”.
