Training standards going down the drain
Labour is moving at a snail’s pace to fix training standards around the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers registration exams, says National’s Associate Education spokesman Colin King.
“It’s been 12 months since the Armstrong report identified the appalling alignment between the industry training qualifications and the trade’s registration exams.
“So why, despite a
year having passed is there no sign of new unit standards
being registered onto the NZQA framework?
“The lack of
urgency between NZQA, TEC and the ITO is disgraceful and
it’s putting at risk the results of the 423 candidates
about to sit these registration exams in June.
“The only thing this tired Labour Government is delivering is talkfests and they’re at the expense of quality industry training.
“How much more procrastination must we tolerate before we see some positive results on this?”
