Is The Governor Of The Reserve Bank Racist Too?
One wonders if the same derisory labels will be applied to the Governor of the Reserve Bank as those often hurled at New Zealand First when we both make the same observation – that immigration is fuelling housing inflation in Auckland and beyond, says New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters.
"New Zealand First has endured more than a decade of abuse and negativity from snivelling, sandal-wearing do-gooders tut-tutting from the sidelines every time we dare to breach the unspoken convention of never criticising inexplicably high immigration numbers," said Mr Peters.
"For some it is the word which must never be spoken and the Governor has now inadvertently or otherwise, breached this taboo.
"New Zealand First welcomes the Governor's forthright, if appallingly belated, views which simply confirm what we have being saying all along. We cannot put our heads in the sand and pretend there are no consequences to consistently bringing around 50,000 people a year – most of whom go to Auckland.
"We are confident that the Governor will find, as we have, that ordinary New Zealanders know and understand the impacts of immigration and welcome those prepared to speak out. So we say welcome to the club. It can be lonely but it is always fulfilling when you are right," concluded Mr Peters.
