King should come clean on Rickards sign-off

King should come clean on Rickards sign-off

Police Minister Annette King must come clean and say if any employment settlement with Assistant Commissioner Clint Rickards would require sign-off by the Cabinet, the Prime Minister, or herself, says National’s Police spokesman, Chester Borrows

“I asked her in the House today if any settlement required Cabinet or Ministerial sign-off, but she refused to answer.

“She hid behind the fact that she could ‘not speculate on the outcome of a tribunal hearing that is yet to be had’ – but I did not ask her to speculate on the outcome of anything.

“Answering that question directly does not affect any employment proceedings.

“This is a question about process, and she should come clean.

“Will any future employment settlement reached with Mr Rickards require Cabinet or ministerial sign-off?

“It’s pretty simple: Yes or no?”
