Peters Welcomes Auckland Airport Board’s Decision
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters has welcomed the rejection of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board’s bid to take a sizeable minority stake in Auckland International Airport.
“New Zealanders have made their attitude towards the sale of the airport very clear and I am pleased that the views of an overwhelming majority of New Zealanders have not been ignored.
“For some time now we have urged Auckland International Airport’s Board to consider the major economic and social implications the Auckland Airport holds for the Auckland region and beyond. Allowing such a vital strategic asset to fall into foreign control is certainly not in the national interest.
“Auckland Airport is a very successful New Zealand enterprise and I am both pleased and relieved that the Board has decided to stand firm in the face of yet another foreign takeover attempt. The share price premium being offered is clearly well below the future value of the airport shares," said Mr Peters.
