Decision to stop tin-based timber treatment

Bob Clarkson MP
National Party Associate Building and Construction Spokesman

29 November 2007

Decision to stop tin-based timber treatment welcomed

The decision by Arch Wood Protection to discontinue the supply of tin-based LOSP products and promote the use of the alternative treatment Azole has been welcomed by National’s Associate Building spokesman, Bob Clarkson.

“I am really pleased that Arch Wood has taken the initiative and stopped the supply of this treatment.

“Now I call on other suppliers to do the right thing. The less toxic alternative is becoming more and more cost-effective and should be promoted.

“It is fantastic to see this move and it is a victory for builders across New Zealand.”

National has previously called for an inquiry into the health and environmental risks of tin-based timber treatment chemicals in response to widespread complaints from builders.
