Maree Mackenzie appointed District Court Judge

Maree Mackenzie, Solicitor of Tauranga, has been appointed a District Court Judge with a Family Court warrant, Attorney-General Michael Cullen announced today.

Ms Mackenzie was admitted in 1988 and her practice since then has been primarily in litigation. Since 2003 she has been a managing partner of the Tauranga firm of Douglas Haycock Mackenzie (now Mackenzie Attwood and Haycock). She joined the firm in 1997 and became a partner responsible for Family Law matters in 1999.

She has considerable experience across the spectrum of family law issues, having practiced in family law since admission. Ms Mackenzie has appeared extensively during her career as lawyer for the child and also has a particular interest in international abduction matters under the Hague Convention. She also has approximately 10 years’ experience in criminal law, together with other experience in property-related matters, such as conveyancing and trusts.

Whilst in practice, Ms Mackenzie has been a member of the Legal Aid Sub-Committee and also District Law Society Sub-Committees.

Ms Mackenzie will be sworn in on 16 January 2008 and will sit in Rotorua.
