Hamish McCracken Selected Candidate For Northcote

Press Release
Northcote Labour Electorate Committee
16 December 2007

Hamish McCracken

The Northcote Electorate Committee of the New Zealand Labour Party is pleased to announce the selection of Hamish McCracken its candidate for the 2008 General election.

Mr McCracken is an experienced candidate who has run in the last three elections in Albany and East Coast Bays. His excellent campaigning skills resulted in a near win in 2002 and give us great faith that Northcote can be returned to Labour. Mr McCracken is a lecturer at the AUT Business School, with a long track record of advocating for workers rights and cooperative employment relations. He is also a former international sportsman having been NZ fencing champion a total of six times.

Acting Northcote Electorate Chair, Enzo Giordani, described the meeting as an open and friendly contest and said that the vast majority of the membership seemed pleased and excited with Mr McCracken’s selection. “I have known Hamish for many years; he is a committed local activist and at thirty five years of age, he will bring youth and vigour to the Northcote campaign, as well as an extraordinary track record of campaigning to attain spectacular results for Labour in safe National seats. He is a candidate who unites rather than divides people as evidenced by the fact that he was endorsed in the 2005 election by several of his opponents from minor parties.”

The electorate also wishes to acknowledge the service of Ann Hartley who was the Labour candidate in the last 5 elections. Mrs Hartley has served two terms as local MP and three in parliament. Ann now wishes to focus on local issues through city council and we wish her well.
